Moab Business Alliance Initiative

Make Moab an Arts Destination

Vision

Give Moab artists a voice in the community and make Moab an “Arts Destination” for practitioners, supporters, and art buyers.

Goal

Create an active community of 50 artists and generate $250,000 a year in new revenues for the artists.

How This Initiative Fits the Mission

This initiative promotes adaptability and creates a more agile economy in Moab. The business of art diversifies the economy and provides a higher level of employment.

Discussion

There are many talented, but underemployed artists in Moab. Many artists live in Moab for the small town community, spectacular surroundings, and a chance to get away from the sprawl and congestion of larger cities. However artists here in Moab tend to be hidden away and working as individuals.

An informal arts group called the “Moab Arts Alliance” has been formed to support the art community and host art events. With little organization, they are already actively supporting events, weekly informal meetings, and a monthly potluck. The Arts Alliance has a logo, banner, and a web page.

“Arts” supporting events and organizations exist in Moab. Art supporters include Moab Art Walk, the Artists’ Studio Tour, the MARC (Moab Arts and Recreation Center), Moab Arts Council, and the annual Moab Arts Festival. Supporting organizations include the Moab Folk Festival and WabiSabi.

Another exciting possibility is to locate artists and gallery space in the “Moab Small Business/Non-Profit Cluster”.
