Invitation

The UMC Expansion Team will host a Charette Workshop to develop and refine the concepts and programs that will be included in the Expansion Proposal Referendum. The Charette is a full-day workshop, which involves students, staff, faculty, community folks and other UMC users along with architects and other members of the design team and subject matter experts. The workshop consists of lively discussions and presentations used to define the scope and character of the expansion/renovation plan.

The UMC will invite about sixty participants – half of whom will be students, to participate in the Charette. The public will be welcome to participate in the afternoon session and wrap-up.

The UMC is proud to announce that Craig Hibberd, a respected proponent of the charette process, has been selected to act as facilitator for the November 22 Charette. Hibberd will conduct the charette with assistance from the design team of Gensler and WTW Architects. Subject matter experts will bring important insight into the fields of sustainable design and renewable resources, technology, food service, engineering, bookstore design, and programming.

The Charette will take place from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Alferd Packer Grill in the UMC, which is located at the Corner of Euclid and Broadway. The Alferd Packer Grill is located on the lower level of the UMC.

Criteria

Four Criteria will Be Used to Assess Designs in the Charrette (From the Expansion Concept Proposal)

  3. Complementary Architecture - Project will be complimentary to the campus architecture and be UMC’s most celebrated building.
